The times when we are most open to encounters with the Other Side are while we are asleep. This is because we are more relaxed, less critical, and more willing to experience unusual encounters, which often happens during dreams.
The way to distinguish between an ordinary dream and a Visitation or Encounter Dream has to do with the experience itself.
An ordinary dream has a feeling of weirdness to it, where things happen that make no sense, people seem almost cartoonist, able to morph and change in unusual ways. There is a general feel of unreality to the whole experience.
Visitations or Encounters, on the other hand, have a completely different feeling. Everything not only seems very real, but they are VERY real. Some have said that Visitation/Encounters are hyper-real, more real than reality itself. Colors are more vivid, and the "dream" is like an awesome version of High Definition.
Visitiations cannot be forced. They are gifts from the Other Side, beyond our ability to control. The most we can do is be open to them. A way to express that openness is to pray/meditate before going to bed, saying, "I am open to an experience and connection with my loved ones, guides and Angels on the Other Side. When they are ready to appear, I am open to seeing, hearing, and connecting with them, receptive to all that I'm meant to know, with truth, wisdom and profound, deep love."
